This holiday season we want to bring you a story about true selflessness and godliness in the face of destitution.
The Setshabelo Family and Child Services' Risiha Program ("risiha" is a Sesotho word meaning "resilience") employs over 300 Child and Youth Care Works (CYCWs). Each CYCW is assisting approximately 10 - 15 families at any one time in the communities they live in. They will care for up to 40 cases / families per year! Often they are alerted to crisis situations by friends, neighbors, schools, and local churches. They make only $150 per month.
This is the story of one of those workers.
This CYCW broke down in tears as she described her journey with this client. She was alerted to the client's situation and found this family completely destitute with no furniture in the house, no job or source of income, and no food. Immediately, this CYCW went to work and got the family access to groceries, clothing, and some basic furnishings. She even provided some of these things out of her own home! There were times when this amazing woman would make food at her own home and bring it to this family.
This amazing CYCW has now found the mother of the family a job and the client now sustains herself and her family on her own income.
We hope you take this story of hope and love with you and spread Thanksgiving everywhere you go this holiday season.
