Calvin's Story:
Lehlohonolo Calvin Masote grew up like many Soweto kids. “I was born and bred in the ghetto and I came from a disadvantaged background.
Truth be told I lost all hope that God does exist. I had no faith what-soever and I was constantly angry that if God is all loving and everything then why would he let his own children suffer. But then I found the Courage Youth Movement (CYM).
Through the grace of God I have been able to overcome my family circumstances and I constantly triumph in everything I do because of the glory of God that is within me."
“Tlaleng, Themba and Tseole [CYM Life Coaches] are the people who helped me the most. They taught me about the anchor scripture Joshua 1:9: ‘Have I not commanded you, be strong and courageous, do not be afraid do not be terrified for your Lord God is with you wherever you go’. They also taught me about the six pillars of respect, trustworthy, citizenship, responsibility, fairness and caring; and not to mention the nine fruits of the spirit. Now is that amazing? It is, trust me!”
Calvin's transformation took a lot of love and forgiveness. The renegade became a role model. He was voted best Courage Youth of the year and graduated with flying colors! He is now a confident second year student at prestigious Wits University in Johannesburg studying Law! He is a self-proclaimed ambassador for Courage Youth and comes back regularly to motivate current students, and works to find ways to introduce CYM at Wits.
Calvin has proven that we are all God's children, and only God knows the plans for each and
everyone of us. He says “I want to thank people who invest in kids like me and who teach us about the Bible. I can say the Lord is my God; that's who he is.”
